Thank you very much for taking the time.
We rented the red sails in august 2013; we were 2 couples and 3 children in total.
We had a good weather (1 day with rain, short rain episodes some days.
The house was perfect for us: equipment is perfect, probably due to the fact that the house is obviously not dedicated to rental but is also a holiday family house: air dryer, cooking equipment, a room for laundry (including clothes dry machine). A buggy was even available ! The house is clean has a warm soul which makes that you feel just like at home, living room is big enough.
The house caretaker is very friendly and available.
In Carna, short walks to do to find the beaches around - but with small child, car is often necessary. Activities around need car: Kilemore Abbey, Connemara Nathional Park, Aran Islands, Galway... To be honnest, we fall in love with the Connemara !!!
Small food shops open each days, (people really friendly !) which is very helpful when you arrive without nothing. Then, I would recommend to go to Clifden (30-40 min. by car) for big and more affordable shopping.
Therefore, we warly recommend you this house for a stay in the Connemara region - do not hesitate more, go !!!
"Red Sails" is a wonderful comfortable house in Carna, Connemara.
We were a party of six adults who wanted to tour Connemara and "Red Sails" was the perfect starting point for us.
Our stay was in March, at a time when temperatures were very low and winds were strong. The house was cosy and warm in no time. The fact that each couple had their own bathroom was a welcome bonus. Bibi, the caretaker was helpful and friendly. The house is well equipped and we found the selection of maps of the area and hiking maps particulary helpful.
The local shop was also very handy for basic groceries.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at "Red Sails" and I'd be happy to recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in the Connemara area.
Many thanks for everything, the house was SUPER and we had a ball including a few nice evenings in Peadars pub across the way and some lovely touring through Connemara. We would HIGHLY recommend your place and look forward to returning hopefully in the not too distant future!
A fantastic house in a beautiful area.
Having stayed in quite a few holiday homes over the past few years I can easily say that this was the best equipped and homely property I've stayed in. This house is perfect for friends and families to say in. The kids loved it. The house was really clean and all communications with Ann and Bibi were helpful and friendly. We loved the fact that you can be the only people on the beaches and that the area is so remote and outstandingly beautiful at every new turn of the road. As well as the beaches we went to Clifden, Galway City, Kylemore and Roundstone for the for the day.
Large comfy house, all mod cons. Nice rural village setting. We will be back!
Red Sails is a beautiful comfortable holiday house right in the centre of Carna. There is everything you need and the caretaker BB is very helpful. Highly recommended!
I just can't say enough about Red Sails! Ann has added the extras to make you feel so welcome. It certainly was a home away from home. We were so comfortable and Carna is a beautiful seaside village to relax in after a long day of sightseeing. Bb, the caretaker was a lovely person, enjoyed meeting her. We have done the B&B;'s and hotels on prior trips...first time with self-catering house and loved it
We were a party of 8 (3 adults and 5 children ranging in age from 7 to 13) and stayed in Red Sails for a week in april. The house was very spacious and had everything you would need for a self catering holiday. It was in a great location and we were within driving distance to many great places to visit. During our stay we went to the aran Islands, Clifton, Connemara National Park and Kylemore abbey during. We also visited some lovely beaches. It is also within walking distance of the local hotel where we got lovely food at good prices. I would definetely recommend this house and hopefully will be back again in the future. Deirdre & Co
Our group of two couples highly enjoyed our stay in Red Sails - the house was fantastic being well equipped and very comfortable. For four of us it was luxurious! We used the house as the centre for daytrips out and about in the Connemara Region and found it an ideal location - Killary Harbour, Sky Road in Clifden, and a trad music session at Molly's Pub in Letterfrack are highlights of our visit. The town and the people here were very welcoming, and the local grocers had all necessities.
Thank you Ann for being such a welcoming and wonderful host, your assistance made our visit that much more special.
Our whole family - six adults, two children and a dog - spent a fantastic week at Red Sails two weeks ago (second week of July 2010). The house was really comfortable and clean, and everything had been thought of: coffee maker, vaccum cleaner, hairdryers, washer and dryer, dishwasher. The living room was lovely and comfortable for evenings in - we cooked ourselves most evenings - and the fridge and laundry were both big enough to accommodate all our food, wine and other drinks! BB the caretaker was really helpful too. The garden is huge and we had a couple of fantastic barbeques out there. There are two bedrooms downstairs so great for those with mobility needs.
Everything in the village is within a couple of minutes' walk - three shops, two pubs, the hotel, the church and the little cove where we walked the dog every evening.
We were lucky enough to be in Carna for the annual Feile Mhic Dara, the feast of the local saint, and spent a happy day down in Mace quay with hundreds of locals watching Galway hooker and currach races, and listening to great live music. The traditional Mass on the island didn't happen due to high winds so we were also delighted to get to attend Mass on the quay beforehand.
We also re-visited lots of places from our childhood holidays including most if not all of the beaches recommended by Ann. We particularly recommend Gurteen Strand and Dog's Beach near Roundstone, but Moyrus strand nearby was also great as it was so close. We also did some scuba diving at Scuba Dive West up near Renvyle - just 40 minutes' drive away.
We dined at Carna Bay Hotel a couple of times and it was lovely. Mary Cloherty, the owner, was most welcoming to us. The family also owns Glynsk House nearby and we can particularly recommend the seafood chowder in both establishments!
Overall we had the most fantastic time and we look forward to another week at Red Sails sometime soon.
We had a wonderful time at Red Sails. It was roomy enough for nine adults, yet cozy and homey. It was well kept and clean. We enjoyed being in a quiet place but was close to Galway, Clifden and Roundstone. Son-in-law was able to take a daily run without lots of traffic. We were busy but we wish we could have spent more time there. Customer service was excellent and I will recommend it to friends and relatives. If we come another time it would be great to just hang out there for a few days and enjoy it.
We stayed in Red Sails for the second week in August 2010.
The house, furnishings, equipment, facilities, kitchen etc were all excellent. When we arrived in the house, it was spotlessly clean, Bibi having worked her magic. The bedrooms were very comfortable and the showers, toilets etc were all that one could ask for.
We regularly cooked for a big gang of people, and we found the kitchen more than met our every requirement.
As for the area, who could ask for better? Our August weather was mixed but we managed to catch every ray of sunshine that was going, and we swam every day. We also played golf, kayaked, windsurfed, cycled, mountain climbed, walked, and ran, so the activities in the area are limited only by your imagination and your resistance to cold water!!
The more relaxed member of the group visited, Clifden and Kylemore Abbey being the favourites.
The Carna Hotel and Glynsk house restaurants were availed of, as was Mitchells in Clifden and they were all very enjoyable. A number of the local pubs were also visited and the pints declared excellent.
In summary, a very comfortable house in a beautiful location, with a proud owner who made us feel at home. What more could we ask for from a holiday home?
We cant believe we have had 7 days of glorious sunshine. Loved the house - enjoyed food and friendly service at the hotel, Arts week in Clifden was great with lots of music and Artwork. We will be back next year for more great Guinness and great music. Thanks very much
House very comfortable and really felt at home. Really enjoyed the area and we had some lovely weather. The locals were very friendly, especially at the hotel, the food was great at the hotel also and great value for money. Would recommend the ferry trip to the Aran Islands which is a great day out. Would definitely love to visit again. Thanks for a great stay.
We all loved the house - very spacious and comfortable. We were enchanted by the scenery and the solitude of the local beaches. Everyone we met was friendly and helpful and we heard some great traditional music. Had a great stay. Thanks
Had a great week, beaches are fantastic, weather mixed. Roundstone nice for lunch, saw an otter on the way back from there. Locals very friendly. House great, fantastic scenery. Great time had by all, made better by comfort of house. Thank you.
Very comfortable beds (we even overslept one day). Natives very friendly! Beautiful area, we saw most of it. Lovely beaches. All in all a wonderful holiday
Great holiday. Lovely weather throughout. Wonderful drives in beautiful scenery. We loved the peace and calm and the little beaches. We enjoyed the splendid, spacious accommodation. A good visit with great hospitality.
We loved the house and got to meet some of the local people. We liked the games and puzzles available for us in the property. A lot of thought has obviously been put into making our stay comfortable and trouble free. It was cold and rainy most of our stay but the house was warm and so was the locals hospitality. Many Thanks
We have had the most beautiful holiday in this beautiful part of the country made even better by this great house - we will spread the word that this is the place to come for a great holiday!
I have thoroughly enjoyed my stay here as this area is beautiful - great for photography - and the cottage has been perfect. Thanks
Nice walks nearby and fabulous tranquil beaches. Definitely visit Clifden and roundstone - nice places to eat out.
